Exercise and
Aging
If exercise is healthy, anti-aging, and helps you lose weight,
why
don’t people exercise more frequently?
It’s time to be open about your real opinion on exercise. Yes,
exercise sucks! Say it. Get that out of your way. Isn’t that
why you always quit exercise soon after you started?
Exercise is neither a pain in the butt nor a pleasant activity. It
is whatever you decide to make of it.
I'm not in love with exercise, but I've made
exercise short
and part of my life. That's how I've
lost 51 pounds!!
Remember back to when you really got all pumped up for exercise? You
enjoyed it for hours at a time. And then for some reason, your
will-power just disappeared. Exercise then became something you
dread and try hard to avoid.
Some exercise experts claim that “society” is to blame. Your life is
built around driving cars, eating on the run, watching TV, sitting
for hours in front of your computer and yaddi, yaddi, yadda.
Now ask your self this:
who decides how you spend your time? It’s you! So if you
choose to be a couch potato, then face the consequences of
that.
Or if you want to end your hatred of exercise once and for all.
Here’s how:
- Don’t live to exercise, but exercise to live an active live.
- If you’re overweight, acknowledge it and take action.
- Know that in
order for you to lose weight, you just simply burn more calories
than you take in. That explains why some people
who exercise for hours every day and still do not lose weight.
They eat more than they burn!
- Remember that you burn calories all the
time, unless you are dead. It's just how fast or slow your
intake calories are burnt is what we're concerned.
Exercising especially some weight training helps build some lean
muscles, which are known to help burn calories fast.
- Remember that if you take in more calories than you burn
through exercise, you will still gain weight.
- Set a realistic goal
(don't exercise for hours at a time to
lose weight fast).
- No one method of exercise is perfect. You need both aerobic
exercise and weight training exercise for a healthy, toned body.
- Understand that exercise is a must to maintain a healthy
lifestyle.
- Think of exercise as living actively, not losing weight.
- Know that exercise promotes, not guarantees, weight loss.
- Realize exercise can be done at any time.
- Forget suggestions from exercise experts; just exercise as
actively as you can. That’s how you will burn the most calories.
- Remember that exercise can be harmful if overdone.
- Keep exercise short and interesting to enjoy it.
- Exercise is not about going to the gym.
- Stay active and in motion even when not exercising.
- Know that you benefit even if you don’t exercise each and
every day.
- Don’t just exercise, eat healthfully as well. Understand
that the best exercise is the one you enjoy and will do
regularly.
- Give yourself permission to be lazy once in a blue moon.
- Don’t hate exercise; exercise doesn’t really care
about your feelings.
- Understand that exercise alone isn’t enough. To slow down
the effects of aging, you need to eat right and get plenty of
rest in addition to exercise.
- Don’t over exercise or you will burn out, quit, and hate
exercise.
Like you, my feelings toward exercise were like a roller-coaster.
Some days I loved exercise—did it for hours; other days I just
couldn’t even stand thinking about it.
The key to making exercise fun is to exercise just enough to make
yourself want to do a little more. How? By
exercising for only 20
minutes a day. No more, no less.
I know that works because I’ve been doing it for 2 years. A daily-20
minutes of exercise along with a nutritious diet has made me drop
just over 51 pounds. Now you can apply this same method.
I walk 20 minutes every Monday, Wednesday, Friday,
and Sunday. I do
20-minute strength training exercise on Tuesday and Thursday.
Give it a try. Just remember not to over exercise.
When the time
is up, stop exercising, even if you feel you can continue. Save it
for the next day. This exercise deprivation is very powerful and
responsible for your persistence in exercising.
There will be days when you don’t want to exercise. That’s ok! Just
go back to the routine the next day. Don’t be a couch potato for 2
consecutive days. The longer you go without exercising, the more
likely you will quit permanently.
Note: You
lose some vitamins and
minerals from exercise, make sure you restore
that through nutritional supplements. And don't exercise when you're
hungry; you will not burn much calories as your body doesn't have
any energy. Eat a snack.
